The Interstate Commerce Commission Accident Reports is an assembled collection of accident reports developed by the ICC pertaining to accidents involving railroads that took place at a specific location on a specific date. Collection is open for research by appointment. Future accruals are expected. Items were acquired through multiple donations. There are four state-owned local option lines currently in operation. The D & I Railroad operates on two local option lines between Canton and Elk Point (49.7 miles) and between Beresford and Hawarden, IA (16.9 miles). Dakota Southern Railway operates 190 miles between Mitchell and Kadoka. The DMVW operates between Aberdeen and Geneseo Jct., ND. The Dakota & Iowa Railroad is a scenic 138 mile shortline operating over former Milwaukee Road trackage. This fascinating rail line is owned by LG Everist, Inc. and begins at their large sand and rock quarry in Dell Rapids, South Dakota.The other was the Chicago, Milwaukee & Saint Paul Railroad (the Milwaukee Road). In Ames, The Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railroad acquired the Ames & College Railway on May 1, 1906. It suspended the steam Dinkey service in Ames during electrification and constructed a line between Ames and the Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern main line at Kelley.
